I joined teams made up mostly of backend developers to help with the frontend. I fixed bugs that had been around for a long time, improved the Google Maps features, and helped build a shared component library.

Website

Context

Frontend work moved slowly in teams with mostly backend developers.
The map features were hard to extend and maintain.
Several apps looked and behaved differently from each other.

What I did

Tracked down and fixed bugs that customers had been living with.
Added new Google Maps features and map-based UI.
Helped build a design system and component library shared across the apps.
Maintained an older Cordova app and handled urgent fixes.

Result

Map features shipped faster.
Less duplicated UI code thanks to shared components.
The Cordova app stayed stable while new work continued.
